CIGARETTE TEST Fabric

Cigarette test: what is it?
The BS 5852 standard provides test methods for the use of composite materials in upholstery.

The aim of the test, according to British standards, is to measure the flammability of upholstered furniture material in accordance with BS 5852 Ignition Source 1.
These test methods assess the ability of such materials to burn when exposed to a lit cigarette or a flaming object.

During the test, gradual smouldering is observed, starting from the surface of the fabric or from within the padding of the upholstery.
If the upholstery smoulders or catches fire within one hour after the cigarette has stopped burning, the product does not meet the standard.
